Tick Tock

Greetings..soooo I decided today that I despise waiting. I hate waiting on anything in life. It hit me that I am completely obsessed with getting through situations as quickly as possible....than on to the next task. For example, I walk 9 -10 blocks everyday from the train station to my apartment. There is a bus that comes about every 5 minutes down my street.. But what do I do? Yep, I walk because I don't even have the temperament to even wait on the bus!
I just can never bring myself to wait. I feel like I'm being so unproductive!
Right now..I feel like I'm waiting for everything in life- internship, graduation, moving to New York, a fun loving relationship,etc.- and feel helpless b/c Ive been doing everything in my power to make these things come faster..

Yes, I know Patience is a virtue but wow.....im beginning to hate it. Im currently learning to use my waiting in time in life to be productive and work on myself. This is my test of faith. I always seem to give my issues to God and believe that He will take care of everything in due time. I have to learn everything its beautiful in due time and their is a reason why God has me waiting. Im just trying to keep my mind busy since we all know idle time is the devil's workshop. So i have been trying to spark my creativity, stay focus, & untangle my thoughts. I've been trying to catch up on small things I said I would do. For example I finally bought "The Devils Wears Prada" (yes i know its sad im a fashion student and im just know watching it) as inspiration;0. People don't realize that once you stepped out to pursue your dream,it takes just as much energy to stay inspired and not discouraged;0
Life Lesson #324..will they ever stop????

I still love Life:)

My Calls

Greetings My Fly People! No I'm not dead or have fallen off the face of the earth! I'm still kicking..November has been tad bit crazy ..but all is good. Okay so I'll update on my life..my calls...first

A Good/ Classic Read.....No Disrespect

"Every woman ultimately wants the same thing; to be loved, respected, protected and successful. We know the goal. Now develop the plan. A good plan will only work if you have the discipline t achieve it." - Sister Souljah

This is what Sister Souljah wrote in my book when I met her freshman year of college. This is my go to book. When I feel as if my life is falling off track I pick up this book as a refocus tool. It's an easy read that speaks volumes! I had to reread this book at the beginning of the month to gather my thoughts..pick it up!

My Fall/ Winter Comfy Look

So I recently purchased the a pair of black leggings/ pants from BCBG MaxAzria and I'm in love. Not only am I'm completely comfortable when I work but I can go run errands and feel comfy also! So on that note when I don't have to wear all black with them at work I like to pair them up with a huge off the shoulder sweater or an oversized belted flannal with flat boots. Pure Comfort! and of course you can always jazz it up with bold accessories or throw some heels on and call it a day! Oh and please don't think you have to spend tons of money on this! These are the perfect thrift stores finds. I bought a couple last week and they ranged from $1.50- 3.00 a piece. Work it out!

My Health

"I have never worked with someone who has ever complained so much through a workout:( But I have also never worked with someone as athletic as you:)"

This is what Kevin, one of the Personal Trainers at Crunch gym said to me after a workout! So yep I had t get a gym membership. I noticed not only that I was breathing a little too hard after climbing the steps at the train station but my stress level was at an all time high. I have a love/hate relationship with working out. I love the energy and the final results after I workout. I hate actually getting out of bed and walking 2 blocks in the cold to leave in pain. But I'm all about a healthy lifestyle and not losing my mind so I advise if you don't workout n regular basis..it does wonders.

And since we're on a healthy tip ...Blueberries has been my healthy snack. I realized that it was pointless if I dragged myself to the gym and come home and indulge in a bag full of salt and vinegar chips. So I stopped by Dominicks and forced myself to pick out healthy snacks. i realized my blueberries have been my favorite. They have energy boosting carbs, appetite suppressing fibers and of course vitamin c..try them out

My Mood/Groove

Stepping Stone - Duffy

Now I'm not depressed in anyway ..I just love the groove of this song and others like this. It's my thinking music when I'm daydreaming on my next move in my life. I love it . It makes me want to travel overseas...random I know.

well Miracles & Blessings until next time

OBAMA 08!! WE'RE IN THERE!!

GREETINGS!!!!!! I know it has been a couple of days since the history has been made but don't think I forgot to blog or didn't see how important this matter was...the truth was every time I would try to sit down I would tear up thinking about our NEW PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA. I am speechless. I am grateful. I am surprised. I am overjoyed. I am emotional. November 4th, 2008 marked the day that I and many other people of color look at America in a different light.

Once they announced Barack Obama President in Grant Park I started balling! I could not believe what just took place. Grant Park was filled with screams, cries, and permanent smiles that represented the mark of our 1st African American President. Michigan Avenue was blocked off with Americans running and a new filled hope that is still growing. When he gracefully took the stage I gazed at the Jumbo Screen and I have never felt so content in my entire life. Once Michelle and the daughters walked on stage my vision was a blur because tear were welling up in my eyes. The family that stood before me was now the family in which America would see and idolize as the "American Family." It touched my heart when I saw the support and love between Michelle and Barack. When Michelle mouthed "I love you" to Barack my heart dropped. Not only was this a beautiful example of Black Love but it was being displayed to America. It was the perfect example of how the Black Family should be portrayed.

Every time Obama opens his mouth he captivates everyone in his presence with his genuine smile and his calm demeanor. I cannot believe that America supported him. I am even more proud to be a strong woman of color living in this Nation. Barack Obama being elected President is much more deeper to the natural eye. Yes we made history but how African Americans look at this country will never be the same.

The most prominent issue that stood in my head was the new found pride that people of color have begun to carry. Once God blesses me with a family, I can look in my children's eye and tell them that You can be anything.....and mean it. I can look at myself in the mirror each morning and tell myself that I can reach any goal I set with Hard work and God. It also helps both Black Males and Females to set the bar high for themselves with both personal goals and when it comes to relationships.

Michelle is and already has been such a powerful role model to young African American females in this Nation. She conducts herself with not only self respect but an honest attitude. I love the fact that she is an extremely accomplished woman by herself. She did not need a male to define her. even with =in her marriage her independent stature continues to shine through. It's amazing to me how she combines both independence but is the backbone of her husband. When he introduced her as his best friend for 16 years my heart smiled. They our the definition of a couple being equally yoked. I love the fact the Barack shows his vulnerability when Michelle is in his presence. They are the definition of Black Love.

I pray every night for the Lord to guide his actions. I thought I would never see this day. It's makes me overjoyed for me to believe that all of our peoples struggle was not in vain. This country is growing and maturing. This puts life in perspective for me. All the issues and earlier life complaints have been erased. Its funny because every morning while walking my three blocks to the train station I would have a defensive attitude while walking through my predominantly white neighborhood. The next morning after Barack Obama was elected it was erased. Its truly like I put my 1st pair of contact s in when viewing America.
Oh Lord... My thoughts are completely everywhere now...I apologize for skipping from subject to subject. I just had to post something about this remarkable night. I'm officially addicted to CNN an didn't leave my house (even with my long list of things 2 do) until I heard his first News Conference after the election. In which I wold say he was extremly poised and comfortable. I love the fact hhe threw the issue of finding the right dogs for his daughter. It definitely lightened the mood. Oh and yes I stood in line to get 10 copies of both the Chicago Suntime and Chicago Tribune the morning after he was elected. Yep its official I am beginning to srapbook:)

We got him in office. Now Its our time to help keep him there!! Everyone needs to do their part!

OH I LOVE IT! Please don't be surprised if I post at least once a week on OUR NEW PRESIDENT And THE BEAUTIFUL FIRST FAMILY. Just warning you they will be frequent guests;0

Oh My Goodness!! OBAMA 08!!WE'RE IN THERE!!!

GOD BLESS!!!!!Because he has been blessing us so far!)

*ALbum Review*

Greetings Fly People! I have to say Mr. Legend has done it again! I recently went out and purchased John Legend's new album Evolver. I utterly am in love with the sound of his new album. It has been playing repeat in my cd player since I purchased it.

I have always been a dedicated fan and groove with John's melodies for a while. His first cd was your typical soulful sounds of R&B. The second album had a more vintage/romantic style of songs. I was a tadbit nervous for the third one because I thought either he was going to repeat one of his previous styles or just lose his personal style completely..I was clearly wrong. His third album is not only a perfect feel good cd but brings out a different emotion with each song that he belts out. Its up tempo beats with a splash of slow and sultry is a perfect mix. He hits topics from dealing with heartbreak to him preaching about the deep power of love. John Legend has a way of taking a serious issue and lightening the mood by the way he portrays it. JOHN legend also always puts his album out with the season. It reminds me of Fall and warm colors. Its a perfect cd to stay in your apartment with a cup of hot green tea while snuggling up with a good novel while his songs are filtering the air with good vibes.

He has creative collaborations with artist such as Kanye West, Estelle, Brandy and of course Andre 3000.

My favorites...

Quickly feat. Brandy- This ballad portrays the picture our world in such a bad state that when he finds his love ..The love has to be rushed because they don't know when there last days are going to be on this earth.

"The news said that the sky is falling, The globe is warming

My country's warring, Leaders are lying, Time is running, Lower and lower, baby

Nowhere to go

I know we just met baby could you love me Quickly, Quickly

I want you to love me like you know the world's about to end baby."

Satisfaction- He can start hinting the fact that his love is not as in love with him as he thought. And they're slowly losing they're relationship because his love is slipping out of love...

"You don’t love me like you say you do You don’t want me the way that I want you You don’t love me like you say you do (you do) you do Chorus (x2)

Can I get me some satisfaction (x3)

That’s all I’m asking you, you, of you Give me the magic back

that’s all I ask of you "

This Time- It is a plead asking for a retry on a failed relationship. He admits to the girl that he was not ready to sacrafice his full self to make it work ..Now once the relatinoship enede he realized what he missed out on....

"This time I want it all ,This time I want it all

Showing you all the cards

Giving you all my heart

This time Ill take the chance This time Ill be your man

I can be all you need This time its all of me "

Its a beautiful song...I absolutely ..Love it, deep breath.

all time favorite (probably because I feel like this most of the time)...

Take Me Away- Is a beautiful song that literally makes you forget about your everyday issues and indulging and running away with your secret love. It is calming, peaceful and paints an intimate image of you and your love.

"I could tell, she's been through pain I could only dream Nightmares live where you live Tears were in her eyes, but she wouldn't let them fall I get the world to know where her smile is..
I asked: Do you dance with me now? Let me try to figure out The fastest round out of town And she says: Take me away from here Take me somewhere, where love is like breathing I don't care where we go, long as I'm there with you, baby "

I Love it...Deep breath:

Aww..the whole album is fly:)This album will be playing in repeat for the next couple months...Please go get It ... Its album where you can play nonstop on repeat and you don't have to skip any songs..nowadays that is hard to come by...

Want to Be A Tourist?

Greetings Fly People..Praise God its Sunday..I feel rejuvenated from this past week.I was actually early for Sunday service! That was a first! I honestly collapsed with my clothes on after being at my internship all day, yesterday. Everything turned out well so I can't complain:0

I have been meaning to post this about a month ago and of course I got sidetracked. I was reading Oyster magazine about a month ago and loved the concept of this jewelry line. It's called "Tourism" collection which was created by Kali Arulpragasm (MIA's older sister). It is currently based in London. It was inspired by her not being to able to travel to over half the world due to terrorism. She was discouraged when certain people would think of particular countries and would have a negative depiction of its culture. In the "Tourism Collection" she uses her designs as a poster for each country. The collection focuses on positive images that enrich the country instead of perpetuating stereotypes. Here are some pieces....

Love the idea. Love the positivity. Love the boldness of the jewelry.

Coffee Talk

Greetings.. I hope all is well with everyone...I have been tossing, turning and picking my brain to figure out the stupidity of males actions. Well I have News i'm definitely done trying. I could frankly careless. It's that simple. They don't make sense. This past week, not only me but numerous of my homegirls, including my sister have been going through hurtful situations when it comes to males. We have had chats over Vanilla Lattes at Starbucks, Girls Night(which I prepared an on point stir fry;), and of course long discussion on that good telephone. And at the end of the day we came to the conclusion of....umm nothing. It's quite sad how us as females will sit over analyze a situation, flip it, toss it up, throw it in the sky, catch it and try to figure the problem all over again. While the "oh so concerned males" is doing his day to day activities not giving a damn about you or your feelings. Not saying that the situation won't eventually deal with them but they avoid it until they wake up and realize how idiotic they are. One point I realized is the major difference when it comes to males and females and dealing with personal problems. If a female is going through numerous personal problems that is the time they want someone to lean on and want a male companion they can confide in. Males do the opposite. They tend to push everyone away and pretend their superman while they deal with a worsening situation. Okay and we all deal with life situations differently. Fine. My problem comes to play with something call ..A lack of Communication. Once again if a female is having personal issues she tends to be open with her problem and is open to advice. Males do the most disrespectful, spiteful and just plain rude actions to push females away so they don't have to deal with them or the situation. Okay let me give a helpful hint to all my males..open your mouth. We as women would rather hear " You know what, I'm going through alot right now and just need some personal time" rather than avoiding phone calls, acting out of your character, or just being a plain disrespectful. It comes down to maturity. Too bad these actions seem not to have an age limit.
Since I'm on a roll..another point is Intimidation. One of my homegirls def. was in a relationship with a male a couple years older than her. She is constantly making moves and bettering herself. I guess he felt as if he should be making most the moves in the relationship..and told her some sorry line of .."You know what I see how successful you are and you're doing soo much and I don't feel like I'm at the level I need to be in life. Maybe I'm getting babied a little too much from you and I don't know how to handle it." and yep it ended with.."I think we should take a break." Seriously? Every male who feels like this honestly need to find a life better yet create one. Umm two words...Personal Problem. Just because you feel intimidated and are getting upset with your females success that gives you a greenlight to act like you have no sense. Oh wow. We are all trying to better ourselves each day so do not blame your lack of success on me..blame it on your lack of discipline, lack of focus , and the lack of God in your life. Yep work on that.

Personally my situation I was dealing was just foolishness. You know your usual..males not keeping their word, acting extremely nonchalant about his actions and just overnight the person that I got to know over a year's time has completely disappeared and the typical negro has appeared. So on that note I'm turning over a new leaf- no more tears, no more examining the situation, no more girl talks or coffee chats. I frankly don't give a damn. It's that simple. Women have to stop going through the motions of playing the victim and try to justify males actions. Never Settle. I will never settle again. If you have your 10 requirements for a male to meet, stick with them. Do not try to bend rule #3 and because he meet # 7 & 8. If he does not meet every standard..keep it trucking. As soon as you find out he is not up to par...leave. We as women always have high hopes we can change or "better" a male with our influence. Let that go. Growth should be mutual. Not a mother dealing with a child( although that's what it seems like the majority of the time). It really hit me these past weeks when I was hurt, overly emotional and blasse blasse..that males are not taking time and having Boys Night where they try to figure out and depict the female they just hurt. They are off to the next female who they will try to replace you with but the sad thing that they will figure out soon is that ..yep ..sweetie I'm irreplaceable So good luck on that.
You know hat, I'll admit I have not have the most Godly thoughts when it comes on revenge when it comes to a male. I have been playing Bust you Windows by Jazmine Sullivan all week. At first I was hurt and clearly confused and all of a sudden I was irate beyond belief. I always tend to make it to church on Sundays but this particular Sunday I was 15minutes early.I def. needed God to work on my heart. And I left feeling renewed. It hit me while I was leaving what my father told me. God will continue to harden that hearts of others to push you away on purpose. It's God telling you that person does not need to be in your life. We always try to make people fit and allow people in our life past their expiration date. The more you try to push it God will continue to try to harden the persons heart more and more. Soo wit that in mind, I was completely content. He's just not for me. It's that simple. No more aggression, anger, or revenge. Time to refocus and put all the energy back into my life. You will reap what you sow. soo keep on...I digress.... God Bless;)

*Defend Your Dream*

Greetings Beautiful People..I hope everyone is doing well. I received an interesting voicemail this morning when I checked my phone. All I heard was an off key version of "I Just Called to Say I Love You" playing on my voicemail. As I was leaving work I couldn't help but have a huge smile on my face as I realized the message came from my mother singing off key on my phone. Now if you know my mother you know that she is strict, stern and sometimes high strung so this was surprising. This message meant alot for me since me and my mother didn't always have the best relationship. It's one of the situations that the mother and daughter are identical so we are always clashing. It's a blessing that our relationship has skyrocketed since I decided to pursue my dream .

It has almost been close to the year when I decided to stop pursuing my education at Alabama A&M university studying Education and decided to attend The Institute of Art- Chicago to study FAshion Marketing/Management. When I first made this transition the different responses were quite overwhelming. Lifelong friends who have seen me grow up since childhood were more than supportive. They understood exactly what my dream was and was not surprised that I decided to pursue this career. So I Thank you all who did:)Even though my parents were(especially my mother) were a tad bit concerned of the stability in the dream they were pleased I followed my heart instead of others opinions. They both said they saw me in the Fashion Industry before me teaching in a classroom. The reason why I chose to study Education was that it was a standard career that was stable and you could touch children's lives. But at the end of the day how was I going to teach children to follow my dreams when I had denied mine.

On the other hand, just as much support as I received...there was just as much as negative feedback. People who did not understand the creative, carefree ,passionate Ellisa felt that my decision was selfish, shallow and didn't make sense. It just made more sense for them to see a young black woman in front of a class than breaking down doors in the Fashion Industry. People often wanted to assume that everyone in the Industry is shallow and label groupies who are not concerned with anything but what they put on. In my case this is foolishly untrue. People saw one side of me and wanted to set me in a box to fix their criteria. I often heard that I had more to offer to the world and I should've just stayed in Education . It's funny because no matter what field or industry I am my goal on a day to day is not only to improve myself but others who surround me. My focus in the Fashion Industry is geared towards the appreciation of Black Beauty. Growing up a brown skin kinky hair girl, my high school years were not the best. I would flip open a magazine or turn the TV on and not see anyone who resembled anything like me. It was not until my last year in high school is when I was greeted by different blogs or Internet magazines that showcased a variety of Black Beauty geared towards a younger generation in women. of color. Black women need to see the natural beauty that lies within themselves. If we knew how much power that God has placed in us and How He created us gorgeous creatures we would begin to have much more self respect. Self respect and confidence can alter which road of destiny that you decide to go down, I know if I was bombarded by images in magazines that looked like me or went to the magazine rack and saw positive images of black women (not half naked pictures of video girls) it wouldn't have taken me up to my 20 years for me to become comfortable in my own skin.

I say all this to say ....Defend Your Dream! Dreams should be debatable. If everyone agreed with your dream than you would not see growth in yourself and you would never know if this is what you really want in life. Not only did I know that I made the right choice because I allowed God to direct me but also the fact that I pushed passed peoples;s negativity. People don't even realize how slight comments as "oh you would've been better in a more serious field" Or "I would have loved to see you if you were studying something else" are example of negative comments. That is equivalent to saying "You would be more attractive if you were lighter or taller" in both situations you can't change. I stepped on this road of destiny for a reason. I encourage all to throw everyones expectation of you out the door! Begin to set your own expectations that are lined up with Christ and the personal growth that YOU want to see will begin.

I was talking to my older sister and she told me this morning that no one can take away your gifts and dreams but they can make you drive yourself crazy by them questioning it. There is no point of even entertaining others opinions if it leaks negativity or tries to pull you back to your past and not allow you to step in your future. Protect your Dream. Until you and God have a clear understanding keep it to yourself. If not, a dream that is told to soon is extremely fragile and is in the state of breakage by negative comments. Once you allowed a dream to develop in you and turn to a goal, I still don't advise you broadcast it. Just Do It! Once people see you start taking step, comments are automatically going to start trickling in. Thats when you ask God for discernment to filter out what you need to take in and what you need to just roll off your back. When I was attending my old university many people were both shocked and confused as my decision to follow my dream. I only allowed them to see one side of me because my dream was still in a fragile state. Once I started making giant steps towards developing my goal, no one believed or understood my decision. I realized they are not suppose to.

God put gift in you for a reason. It is hard for people to understand when others pursue their goals if they are not pursuing their own. Once again protect your dream. let it develop before you share it. Love yourself. love Life. and don't let toxic people in your life.,,

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Luke 12:34

Two Decades On EartH;0

Greetings Everyone..It's funny when I have A Happy Belated Birthday to myself. I have been quite crunched on time to post on a regular basis but I'll try to do a quite catch up! My Birthday was actually Monday, August 25 2008! I was honestly not expecting to do to much on my birthday but just contemplate on how far God has brought me all of my 20 yrs..and maybe a birthday dinner. My roommates had a different idea of celebrating my Birthday and through me a Surprise B-day Party at The W hotel in downtown Chicago! The room, food, and everything else was wonderful! I felt soo touched. One of my roomies have been putting in so much effort in making me feel at home in Chicago since I'm originally not from here and this is my second location in the past 2 years. She called my homegirls and homeboys to come out and kick it for my b-day. I was pretty surprise people came out since my bday fell on a Monday and we all had class in the morning! We ate dinner in the restaurant downstairs and than we went to one of the suites and I walked into an empty room. I don't know how they did it but somehow a good 25 people fit in the bathroom and came out screaming with balloons and a cake "Happy birthday ellisa!" it was so sweet, especially since I'm still fairly new to the city! I felt loved and had a beautiful night;0

Yes, You read right it says Mrs. Fiasco!!! Yep I have to claim my blessing..lol

I know many felt as if I was over exaggerating with my reaction to turnung 20. I don't know turning 20 was a wake up call that Im an adult and have been living for 20 years, its pretty amazing because it doesn't seem that long at all! I love the mentality that my best Allison gives on how you should measure each year of your life and make a promise to yorself to make the next year better, This past year has to be the most growth I have ever had in my life. Here's my measurement list...

  • Moved to Chicago

  • Stepped Out on Faith

  • Stood my ground when my family questioned my motives to pursue my dream

  • Studying and pursuing Fashion

  • Experienced Heartbreak

  • Had the courage to go Natural

  • Learned how to let go of grudges

  • New School

  • New job

  • New Internship!

..This is just a few blessings that God has given to me the past year of my life! It's actually amazing:) God is Amazing;0 Soooooo I am actually thrilled to see what God has planned for me in this up and coming year;) I have one more gift I get to unwrap for my B-day that I gave to myself and that is the Nas concert on Aug 31,2008. That will have completed a wonderful week of birthday celebrations! Hopefully Ill get some good pics to post;)

God Bless...

"Thrifting" ...it's A Talent!

Greetings Fly People... So yesterday while running around Student Affairs and meeting with my financial advisor i received beautiful news. Our school was closing down for the rest of the day due to issues in the building so that meant no afternoon classes!!!! Of course as i was headed to the library to print out an assignment before I left, I ran into my homegirl Shani! I told her about the news and she was clearly overjoyed! Soo we stood in the hallway pondering how we should spend all of our down time. Hmmmm...THRIFTING!!! Yes, it took us a half a second to agree to our plans. As we were headed out we ran in two other of our homegirls, soo we all headed out for a warm afternoon of thrifting.

The first place we went was Unique's Thrift Shop. It is located off the 35th/Archer stop on the Orange Line. This is a thrifter's heaven Honestly its full of racks and racks of hidden treasures...

Unique Thrift Store
3542 S Archer Ave
Chicago, IL 60609

Scarf (that I will turn into a shirt) , $1.99 Camel Leather Tote ...$6.99

Shoes..$15.99

Leather Clutch...$3.99

Retro Shades $1.99

So those were the fly findings I found at Unique..

So we then headed up to Wicker Park (my favorite area!) And we went to the dope boutique of Una Mae's Boutique. This is located off the Damen Blue line Stop down Milwaukee...

Una Mae's boutique
1528 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Chicago, IL 60622.

This boutique is extremely inviting with the strong scent of incense and oils that lead you into the boutique. Th e first item that caught my eye was a pair of high waist vintage inspired jeans. they weren't truly vintage but just inspired..unfortunately they were too big! Th boutique owner saw my disappoint me and help me get a couple more pairs to try one. They all didn't work until she went upstairs and pulled a pair of TRUE vintage high waist jeans from the 70's. I'll admit I couldn't breathe for a half of second but once I walked around for a minute they became more comfortable...

FAded Glory True Vinatge jeans $24.00!! !

A days worth of thrifting threads ...priceless!!
If you have a chance, make a trip to these fly spots...

GoD Bless...
