**Sunday's Best**

Goodmorning to all! Today is a dreary, gray morning.....I overslept this morning, but I still made it to class on time! The World - 0, Ellisa-2!

But anyways

When I was growing up I Polly was one of my FAVORITE movies ever!
Polly is a touching family movie that starred Phylicia Rashad and Keisha Knight Pulliam which took place in the 1950's. Polly (Keisha Knight Pulliam) goes to visit her wealthy Aunt Polly (Phylicia Rashad) for the summer. While there, Polly's happy and joyful spirit spreads to the entire community.

When I was a young girl I was ALWAYS amazed on how the women looked so entirely put together. It was so much pride in how they presented themselves. I love the silohuette of the dresses, pinned hair , dainty gloves and oh so fierce hats.

I remember my grandmother gave me a deep purple, full A-line dress with ruffles for days. I would spin in circle until I feel like I was going to pass out! I miss it....SOOooo why not re-invent the style in more mature way. This spring/Summer I'm Channeling the 1950's- full dresses and skirts

Here is one of my fav musical clips of the movies which show a boatload of fabulousness in attire...

Here is another musical clip, with the beautiful Phylicia Rashad ..

Love the off theshoulder and A-Line Dress

Feminine, Feminine, and still fly

And the best thing about A-Line dresses they enhance all types of figures

*The Fashion Show*

Today in one of my classes I was told that one of my school's alumni is a contestant of the new show on Bravo The Fashion Show. The new show is hosted by Isaac Mizrahi, Kelly Rowland andFern Mallis. Fifteen professional designers will compete in this fashion creative competition series for a chance to have their designs sold in the retail market and win a $125,000 prize.
Kristen graduated from The Illinois Institute of Art- Chicago 3 years ago. I viewed her collection, Organik Revolution at Chicago's Fashion Focus and was one of my favorite collections. All of her clothes are eco-friendly. I love her color tones, What can I say I'm a sucker for earthtones:0 Here are a couple pictures of her collection that I snapped at the Fashion Show. . . . .

Want to Be A Tourist?

Greetings Fly People..Praise God its Sunday..I feel rejuvenated from this past week.I was actually early for Sunday service! That was a first! I honestly collapsed with my clothes on after being at my internship all day, yesterday. Everything turned out well so I can't complain:0

I have been meaning to post this about a month ago and of course I got sidetracked. I was reading Oyster magazine about a month ago and loved the concept of this jewelry line. It's called "Tourism" collection which was created by Kali Arulpragasm (MIA's older sister). It is currently based in London. It was inspired by her not being to able to travel to over half the world due to terrorism. She was discouraged when certain people would think of particular countries and would have a negative depiction of its culture. In the "Tourism Collection" she uses her designs as a poster for each country. The collection focuses on positive images that enrich the country instead of perpetuating stereotypes. Here are some pieces....

Love the idea. Love the positivity. Love the boldness of the jewelry.

God Bless..

"Thrifting" ...it's A Talent!

Greetings Fly People... So yesterday while running around Student Affairs and meeting with my financial advisor i received beautiful news. Our school was closing down for the rest of the day due to issues in the building so that meant no afternoon classes!!!! Of course as i was headed to the library to print out an assignment before I left, I ran into my homegirl Shani! I told her about the news and she was clearly overjoyed! Soo we stood in the hallway pondering how we should spend all of our down time. Hmmmm...THRIFTING!!! Yes, it took us a half a second to agree to our plans. As we were headed out we ran in two other of our homegirls, soo we all headed out for a warm afternoon of thrifting.

The first place we went was Unique's Thrift Shop. It is located off the 35th/Archer stop on the Orange Line. This is a thrifter's heaven Honestly its full of racks and racks of hidden treasures...

Unique Thrift Store
3542 S Archer Ave
Chicago, IL 60609

Scarf (that I will turn into a shirt) , $1.99 Camel Leather Tote ...$6.99

Shoes..$15.99

Leather Clutch...$3.99

Retro Shades $1.99

So those were the fly findings I found at Unique..

So we then headed up to Wicker Park (my favorite area!) And we went to the dope boutique of Una Mae's Boutique. This is located off the Damen Blue line Stop down Milwaukee...

Una Mae's boutique
1528 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Chicago, IL 60622.

This boutique is extremely inviting with the strong scent of incense and oils that lead you into the boutique. Th e first item that caught my eye was a pair of high waist vintage inspired jeans. they weren't truly vintage but just inspired..unfortunately they were too big! Th boutique owner saw my disappoint me and help me get a couple more pairs to try one. They all didn't work until she went upstairs and pulled a pair of TRUE vintage high waist jeans from the 70's. I'll admit I couldn't breathe for a half of second but once I walked around for a minute they became more comfortable...

FAded Glory True Vinatge jeans $24.00!! !

A days worth of thrifting threads ...priceless!!
If you have a chance, make a trip to these fly spots...

GoD Bless...

Proper English Is The New Trend

Greetings Fly Ones! So before I collapsed in my bed last night I was greeted by an interesting email. It was an email introducing me to JAM DONALDSON DESIGNS . Jam Donaldson is the creator of the controversial hit BET series starring Charlie Murphy, “We Got To Do Better,” and the popular website Hotghettomess.com. Jam Donaldson has launched a line of pop-culture tees with the same message she conveys on her site and television show, that we must improve as a whole in the African American Community. JAM DONALDSON DESIGNS creates vintage style tees which has broken phrases that many African Americans tend to use throughout a daily conversation. . I love the idea of encouraging people of Color that it is not cute/attractive to not speak proper English. Her designs allow you to read what one says and how it looks in written form.

As AFrican Americans we are continuing to have to fight against ignorant stereotypes that society places on us. It hurts my heart when we as a people continue to keep those same stereotypes flowing because we think that is the best we can do. It is utterly ridiculous on how we feel the need to PURPOSELY speak broken English and then have the nerve to write how it sounds. It kills me when people try to sound intelligent and uses made up words such as "Conversate." And we wonder why children are failing Spelling tests left and right. Children are video cameras that play back what they see and hear on an everyday basis. Stop the CycLe!

JAM DONALDSON DESIGNS can be found exclusively at http://store.jamdonaldsondesigns.com/shop.html. Support Proper English, watch what you say and buy a Tee!

God Bless!!

If you read my previous post you would know I gave myself a personal mission to go thrifting. My goal was to try to find a less expensive version of the Brian Reyes Cardigan Ms. Gabrielle Union wore in July 2008 Essence issue. Well my mission is not yet complete....BUT I did find some dope items. Of Course I went with my bestie Al to go thrifting around the Broad Ripple area in Indianpolis,IN. The only downfall we ended up just making one stop(Eeek!) The place we went to was a new thrift store for Indianapolis which is called Rag-O-Rama. I was first introduced to this store at its Atlanta location when I was down visiting my other bestie Mimi down at CAU. When I went to the Atlanta location I fell in love...seriously. It could take a thrifter a full 24 hours to look at each rack of clothes and another 4 hours to search through all the accesories ( which are my favorite!)

Soo it was funny when I spotted the new Rag-O-Rama that just moved to Broad Ripple. I was driving past the strip and damn near slammed on the brakes. I honestly almost did and yes I know I'm a dramatic person;) But I was sooo geeked! I told everyone. I bugged everyone around me to go! Soo I finally went and loved it all over again. It was hilarious of course Allison looked at me and just shook her head as I reached for the shoes first..Its a sickness. I did make smarter selections with the shoes I purchased. I purposely bought a pair of red flats knowing that the majorityof my life im hoping on trains and buses in Chicago. I also bought an extremely fly pair of gold earrings that everone has tried to snatch fro me already; O And of course I had to make a random purchase of bright neon green fishnet gloves.Just for fun;0 Rag-O-rama is located in St. Louis, Columbus, OH and Atlanta. The service was warm and inviting. I would encourage you to go if there is one near you. God Bless!!
