Throwback Poetry

Wow.. so I was going through some of my old,old work and ran into this poem from 2006...its funny to read and evoke emotions from the past.. I have to admit some parts are a bit cheezy but the lines that are bold were my favorite lines of the piece

"A Moment In Time"
By Ellisa Oyewo

For A Moment

For A Moment in time
He held my heart and poured out his soul
He peeked into my future
And became the arm that helped me reach my goals

For A Moment

For A Moment in time
He was my educator
Who taught me patience is better than pride
And was a pure example of
Everything being beautiful in its own time

For A Moment

For a moment he was the absence of my pain
He inherited my weakness
Broke them down
Built them up
And my weakness soon became his strength

For A Moment

For A Moment in Time
He was the perfect image of his Creator
His mind, body, and spirit was on one accord
Which was displayed in his Godly behavior

For A Moment

For A moment in time
He became my vision
He stripped me of my sight
His power was so deep
That I couldn't tell if it was day or night
But when he gave it back
My outlook completely changed
He left me with pure joy and he endured all of my pain

For A moment

A precious moment

And as I fought myself to not let this precious moment go
All I could do was open my trembling lips and slip out a silent……. "hello?

"No Ordinary Love"

Greetings Everyone! As a New Years Resolution I told myself I'm going to post on a regular basis..or at least attempt . I'm in the library taking a break from studying for a writing break.I have a weird habit of while I'm writing, I lisen to the same song on repeat until I'm finished. Well today's joint is Sade "No Ordinary Love."

January 2009 has been a blessing in disguise in numerous ways. It's a fresh start. I 've decided to cut certain people from my life, embrace the present, and find positive in each situation. ..even more. I recently returned from New York for an internship interview. Just in this first month I have received an Internship for Seventeen Mag in the Fall. This is not only an unbelievable opportunity but a reminder that all my hard work is not in vain. Also I"ve have fallen in Love with Brooklyn, New York seriously now:0

But also with blessings comes trials. Unfortunately also in this past Month my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. A trial or blessing in disguise? Many would ask how is any type of illness be a blessing. It's one because we as a family have come together and supported her. We have actually grown so much closer in this past month than ever. Our faith as a family will allow her to be healed:). Numerous times God has to break us down in order to build us up again. My mother is someone who is a bit hardheaded and extremely strong willed. Now she is in a position where the only thing she can do is to rely on the Son of God.

In any case, As I continue to be expose to what life has to offer my mentality continues to change. Time Never Stops. Simple, I know but it's really setting in right about now. As a child I felt as if the majority of my childhood was both clear and magical. No worries, No stress, No Life Lessons, No second guessing....I just lived without a care in the world. Never even thought about any type of a consequence to my choices. The real world seemed so far away from my thoughts and now I'm living through it. In order for me to continue to mature I have to realize that memories are just that...memories. My dreams are turning into reality. All of my childhood daydreams are slowly making it's way to reality;) I've realized life goes on no matter what. The wonderful thing about this concept is that you can determine how it goes on. Yes we all have situations that are out of our hands. I'm a full believer with strong faith, a positive mentality and determination we hold the power with each of our choices. So in 2009 I encourage all to take control of your destiny. God has a spectacular plan for all of us. Now all we have to do is stay on the path He has marked. God has put a hidden talent in all of us. Let 2009 be the year you dig it out;)

Guilty Pleasures

Are insecurities taboo to discuss because nobody knows/wants to deal with them?

It's amazing of how much we hide from ourselves and from others around us. Insecurities tends to breed guilt towards ourselves, choices we make and even the environment we choose to be placed. The older I get the more the Lord reveals to me that He is the only one that is made perfect. No one else..which can have its shocking moments at times. it hits you hard when you gently have to take a person you admire off of a sky high pedestal. So how do you deal with such situations?

Do you bottle your confusion of emotions inside only so they can come pouring out at the most inconvenient time? Do you deal with the situation at hand, until you both come to a truths & still have to bury leftover emotions from the altercation inside? Or do you simply disassociate yourself from both the person and the situation? I have to admit I've used all three solutions in a distorted pattern. One cannot say which breeds the best results. Guilt is a strong word and an even stronger emotion.

Is it your responsibility as a peer, friend, lover, or sibling to make this emotion surface in others? Or is it our responsibility to shrink this emotion as much as possible?

As a writer the only time I can try to figure out these answers is when my pencil touches paper...its one of my guilty pleasures:0

If we know that Christ is the only One that is made perfect, why do we consistently punish ourselves with guilt. Is it the only emotion that makes us never to make the same mistake twice? Or is it a sour motivation that reminds us that doing bad secretly feels so good?

It could take years, decades, even lifetimes to piece these questions together with unwanted answers. Maybe their are no answers just a gateway to ore thought provoking questions. In any case to learn how to react to ourselves and others mistakes, is a road full of possibilities. I wonder if the most common solution is Letting Go & Letting God?
