Yess, Yess It's true I'm officially old...yikes! The big 22 happened for me yesterday. Wow. It's amazing how much you see growth within yourself from just 2, 3, years ago. Well, I am raising my goals even higher this year. The new inspiration board of goals/dreams was created yesterday and am changing up my daily routine to always make sure to keep myself centered and focused.

Well anyways, with the upcoming year I am launching an official site that will be up within the next 2 weeks. I will give you more details soon but just wanted to let you know that I have not abandoned my blog:)

Just wanted to leave you with this.......This is the first Scripture that I learned as a child, it completely describes how I live my life.....

Okay so this past weekend I ran into a psychic. Yep you read right once again. I was leaving Pillow Cafe from nice Brunch where I chowed down a goat cheese omelette while my handy laptop entertained me. I finished writing a couple of my posts and was trying to let my thoughts halfway flow freely while enjoying the warm Saturday mid morning. As I was leaving this older woman told me to stop. So I looked back to see if I dropped something and I hadn't.

Then she pointed to my bag and yelled "Your heart is just like that purse heavy and overloaded!"

I was like "Huh?"

"You haven't let go of people in the past and your heart is bruised and so are you mentally."

"Great..here we go".. I mumbled, So yay I go suckered in just out of curiosity.

She then went to tell me about situations of the past and brought up the initials of someone who I had tons of emotional baggage with...I'll give you a hint if you know me(J.??)

At this point I was like "Jesus!"

Three things she told me that she could've kept to herself...
-I'll live to 87..Great do I start counting down or what??

- I have a heavy heart and that men are attracted to me but I do not know how to keep them.

-I need closure from the past before I can open myself up in the future ( what they hell is closure any way, this is the most abstract concept that therapists tell people to get over something. Can you hand me 1, 2,3 step of how to do this properly?? Just a question. I digress)

Three things she confirmed....
-I'm good at what I do and will continue to live out my passions

-Nothing has come easy to me, and I've busted my little black behind to get to where I'm at ( a little ad libbing)

-And that I come from a good home and a good background

Then she hit with that will be 10 bucks! Geez I got GOT! even though she voluntarily started to scream out my "future."

Ahh gotta love BK.

Okay so I know I've been all over the place. Last night I've been having numerous ideas but I've been so super lazy and not acting on them. I had a revelation this morning that even though I'm a believer that everything falls in place, you have to still go for it.I've been waiting for a couple of things to fall into place and not embracing my loves and passions to the fullest. With that being said this site is going to be revamped starting this week! From topics of relationships( this dating life extremely interesting for a 21 year old virgin (yes you read right), pursuing your dreams(especially being a newbie in the the belly of the beast , staying spiritually inclined and just open topics that yes my little brain will pick apart throughout the day. So 1, 2, 3 Lets Gooo.

Greetings! Okay so I have been a tad bit MIA with writing! Hmm let me see what can spill out of me this Sunday evening? Right now in life I'm just trying to level out and exhale from a slightly inetense quarter. I am also trying to wrap my brain around the fact that I will be a college graudate by the end of March. Yes I know, its quite unbelievable. Where did time go? and did I spend it wisely?

Well for the most part I feel like I was pretty productive:o Hustling & Grinding as all dreamers do. It's just crazy how I'm about to dive into a whole new world of post graduation. And of course, finding a gig. I have to say I am more excited than nervous. It's pretty exciting to not know exactly where you will be in the next couple of months but still have faith to know everythiing will fall into place.

Hmmm, lets see I have not hit on love and relationships in a while. maybe because that part of my life often stagnant for the most part:0For the most part things are pretty much the same. Cute guy--->Crush----->Disapointed-----> Take the energy back and put it towards myself. This cycle seems to never fail:) But I have had some surprises lately that has....hmm how can I put it, given me something to think about.
Oh but yes let me reiterate this fact when it comes with guys/girls. Please just be yourself. Don't lower your standards just to say you're with someone or even try to impress them. It's not worth your time and energy to jump through hoops for someone who doesn't appreciate you. If you have to change that much to be with a person they might as well date someone else. If you think about it, they already are because that person is not dating you but still your "representative."

Lets see.. Love Life. You never know which breath is your last. Never hold back. If you want to tell somebody something tell them. I guarantee that they will appreciate it more than you will ever know. and of Course...Keep Dreaming;)

Revolving Door

Greetings! Every morning I wake up in the and barely make it to the train stop to catch my train. By the time I reached my stop the train is so ridiculously crowded that you can't even turn around, let alone attempt to change your i-pod selection. That's why when the you hear the automatic voice on the intercom saying "Doors Opening", a slight joy is seen in everyone who has suffered the morning rush. Bam! the doors open and a sea of people bustle out at least 10 sliding doors on the train. Once you walk off the train, you have to walk up a set of stairs to enter the building. This is where I realized my epiphany. There are 4 doors to enter the building. And every morning the boatload of people who enter the building do the same thing every time.

People will only use the two last doors to enter. To the point of where there is a line forming in front of the revolving doors. All while the other two doors are not being used at all.

The first time I noticed, I asked myself are those just the exit doors? So the next day I checked to to see and that wasn't the case. I checked to see if they worked properly and they also passed that test. So the next morning I took a huge step and broke free from the line of the two doors. I swerved to the right and used one of the doors which seemed so "taboo"! As I pushed the revolving door and walked through the turn stall, I turned a round and chuckled. Now the new line was not formed at the original door but at the revolving door that I pushed myself through.

The original line was almost clear again and redirected to my door.

At that moment I realized that so many people unconsciously follow the path that most people take. Not because it's better or even safer. Just because more people take a certain that path it does not mean it's a better choice. People like to feel comforted and not alone. So even if there are 2,000 people climbing through a window and not using a perfectly fine door, they will feel better about themselves just because they are not alone. Fear of the unknown is the blockade that keeps people suffocated in a box daily. People have to start questioning all the rules that society places on us taught from a baby all the way to the day past your retirement.

IT IS OKAY TO CREATE YOUR OWN PATH. Think about it. The rules that society follows were originally started by people who were tired of following the majority rules.

So Go ahead and take a spin in the unknown "Revolving Door" of life!

Back to the Basics

Yessss I'm back! Please forgive my month hiatus! I have been all over the place physically, mentally and especially emotionally. I have been trying to get back in the groove of things since I moved from New York Back to Chicago. New York was amazing and my internship at Seventeen was simply unbelievable. I made great contacts, gained a boatload of experience and was introduced to a whole new world that was made just for me. New York is addictive. I have never felt so comfortable in an environment ever in my life. I was surrounded by such a diverse group of people who all seemed so creative and driven. Oh and I can't even explain how I fell so deeply in love with Brooklyn! My heart will never be able to let it go.

So you can only imagine the mix emotions I had when I returned back to Chicago. I left the place that I have been wanting to live since I was atleast 10 years old. Not only did I leave my ideal location but I also left my ideal career environment. Working for a major publication has also been a dream of mine since I was young girl. At first when I came back I believed that my experience was just a tease instead of motivation. I felt my dream had been snatched from me.

Originally once I returned here I was so distorted and was extremely worried if I will ever make i back to NY in my ideal situation again once I graduated. I was stressing to the point that my parents, professors and peers were telling me that I needed to calm down. After a couple of weeks I realized that everything works out how it is supposed to. My worrying was doing nothing but making me not sleep through the night and giving me a pounding headache.

So it was back to the basics! First and foremmost I had to get back aligned in God's Will. That was the reason why I made it to NY in the first place. If I get caught up in the glitz and the glam and forget my purpose there is no way I will ever get where I want to be. So instead of being overly obsessed with building my resume, Im getting back in touch with my soul. From writing to meditating to volunteering I'm going back to the basics. I realize I can't move faster than God. Patience and time will reveal everything I need to know about my future. So I will continue to look for opportunities but really pray about each decision I make. I graduate in about 6 months. If there was ever a time to be with aligned with God it's now. So if I get placed back in New York or across seas in London, I will have joy because I will be following the destination God placed in my heart.

-My 21st Birthday past and had an incredible time partying up in NY. Friends and sister came up for the weekend to help me celebrate.

-Fashion Week just ended. Iwas able to attend some shows that editors could not make. I have some footage and pictures. I'm upset I do not have more since I left mycamera at home for some of the shows:(

- My internship at Seventeen Magazine is winding down, I have a couple more weeks and its back to Chicago:( I might go into depression mode. I LOVE NY. The positive is that I graduate in March and will be back in New York ASAP!

Am I afraid of Myself?

The other day an old friend said I sounded like a workaholic. They weren't saying it as a negative comment but nonetheless they called me one. That's not the first time that I've heard the word "workaholic" while describing me.

I sat back and thought about it and I had to agree. I did not debate people when they say this statement, i just wanted to know why?

I've always told myself that I push myself so hard because I want to reach every goal that God has set in my heart. Which is very true! That's why even when I'm dead tired I will still find a way to push myself to a new level. I can't stand the feeling of not being productive. It's just time wasting when I could be actually making a change in my life or others. I know, I know I need to learn how to rest and take care of myself properly too.

But that's one reason of me being productive but the other reason is avoiding life's problems. I realized that as soon as I unwind and I'm not focus on completing a task I get bombarded with emotions, stress, and pain that I thought I tucked away. Yes they were tucked away but only temporarily until the next time I get idle time! Yes, I am believer that "idle time is the devil's workshop" and it can bring up unwated ideas. The more I was thinking about it, the more concerned I begin to feel. In one aspect it just seems like I run away or avoid unwanted emotions in life instead of dealing with them. How do you honestly deal with issues??

Does time really heals all wounds?? Another question asked myself. I have had emotions that I had erased over a year ago and they all began to pop up again when I saw the person or situation. I was always taught to keep going in life. Life happens but you can't stop living. What I'm soon finding out is that even though you might continue to live through life ,does it mean that you really deal with problems are just bypass them?

Epiphany of the Week: I purposely don't have downtime so I can keep my mind constantly busy and not have the past or things I buried won't arise again.

I feel like God is nudging saying that I can't continue like this because, its all will catch up with me one day.

Random Thoughts of life as a Sevnteen intern.....

Since I began my internship it has been a rollercoaster of emotions. When I began intimidation was the biggest emotion I felt. I was worried I would end up screwing everything up! The funny thing about it is when I finally did make a mistake thats when I start being comfortable. I realized that I had to learn how to deal with peoples dominating attitudes, juggling 10 different tasks all while keeping a smile on my face. From packing for photoshoots to getting lunch for my editor it has been interesting to say the least. I pray all through the day and want to come home and do my own individual yoga class.! If I said it was easy it would be a complete lie.

Fortunately, when you're following your dream there is nothing or no one who can stop you. Once I came to the realization that peoples remarks nor attitude determine my destiny made things easier. Everyday before I walk in the office I get centered and remember that God has control over my life and I am at this point in my life for reason. It's a reminder that I'm unbreakable with His strength.

The experience is exciting so far !. The other day I walked pass Nina Garcia, like it was nothing:o Helping for photoshoots, doing pick ups, and just helping out in general gives me a great understanding of how everything comes together.

I can't wait until I get to do more, especially during Fashion Week!

Greetings! Soo this week I have been officially a tourist:) My cousin has completely ragged on me for pulling out my camera randomly throughout the day. But I told myself this week I can be that corny tourist that New York Natives talk about. I have been pretty productive. I officially know how to get to the Hearst office building and back. I'm proud of myself so Monday morning soI won't be completely flustered taking the train. I promise New York's trains make Chicago's train system looks like train for dummies. I feel like there are 15 trains going on one platform.

After watching the BET awards having mix emotions about the great icon Michael Jackson tribute I have alot on my mind.

First let me stating of how incredible Michael Jackson was as a performer, musician, and especially humanitarian. This man broke down barriers left and right. When people say his music was magical, it is an understatement.

I remember being a little girl in my grandma's flower shop dozing off to MJ classics on the radio. I kid you not, everytime I heard or saw one of his video it took me away to a whole new place. There were so many different elements to both his songs and his music video/short films. His music not only cross hearts but also crossed seas. My father is from Nigeria and one of the only American records he had was Michael Jackson. There is no artist today who is even close to receiving that cross over power. From my grandmother to mother to my older sister to me, his music hit every generation in his own way.

Creative. One word that was embedded in Michael Jackson. All of his music videos were visual proof that this man's imagination was out of this world. Even his song topics broke the typical patterns of sex and love. Yes he had dynamic love ballads but he also allowed his voice to hit heavy topics such as, "They don't care about us" and "Earth Song". His music told a story and was an open diary of his great imagination. Since forever people have been trying to understand the thoughts of this icon. They've asked questions trying to pick his brain apart but always failed of unlocking his thoughts. People must realize it's not for them to understand. When you are a musical genius and allow your creativity to power your life others aren't going to understand. If everyone was able to understand Michael Jackson he wouldn't have been the icon he is now.

Humble. The word to describe how he presented himself. It's sad to say that artist today have the biggest egos and attitudes and don't even have 1/8 of the talent that Michael Jackson had. He was known as the King Of Pop before he passed and was so humble about the title. He never used word to prove anything but always his talent. Soft spoken, the Icon never looked down own others but helped them. As a humanitarian Jackson knew that his purpose on earth was to give his gift of music to the world and also a helping hand. You rarely find anyone in the entertainment business these days that use their influence for something positive and there money for more than diamonds and tackily decorated vehicles.

Perfection. The word that described his craft and talent. Michael Jackson not only used the gift that God gave him but perfected his craft. You could tell this man did not stop until he felt that his performance or song was perfect. Again today artist tend to jump in the music industry and disrespect it completely. Not studying the people who came before them, not taking there craft seriously or just not having any talent at all. Michael Jackson not only set a standard in the music industry but in every field. It doesn't matter what color, sex, or any handicap a person might have that if you work on the talent that God placed in you, you will rise above any roadblocks that society tries to place in front of you.

Thank You. The two words that everyone has to say to this man for giving us real music. It hurts my heart to see anchors and reporters still trying to tear his man down after he literally gave his life to entertain us. He blessed us with more and more music even when the public continue to break his spirit. This should motivate everyone to step up their game especially in the music industry. Watching the BET awards I wondered how all the people called themselves "artists" knowing that such a Legend passed. Performances had me shaking my head thinking that there is no one close to the "King of Pop." I do have to say Ne-Yo did a very good job in singing my favorite classic "lady in My Life"

To Michael Jackson, just want to say Thank You for both your incredible Spirit and music. It will always live on.

"I Like'em brown skin, Natural hair, strong mind ..."that will be the day that you will hear a mainstream rapper belt out these lyrics. Unfortunately we hear "I Like a thick long haired, redbone..." over and over like an ignorant Negro Anthem. Thank You Lil Wayne.

I was reading Clutch Magazine today and came across an interesting article. The article was called " The Type of Men Naturals Attract." It discussed the topic of what type of male natural women attract. It hit the point that we usually attract a more intellectual mate. Examples were Dwele or Musiq Soulchild . Hmm I wish! Others chimed in and said as soon as they went natural the attention from men completely stopped.

This is utterly ridiculous for a beautiful natural woman to not receive attention for allowing her ntrue beauty show. I personally feel that males just know who they can pull off being ignorant and who they cannot. I have to say a natural woman automatically portrays a certain confidence because she is comfortable in who she is as a person. I know personally males rarely disrespect me while approaching me, I don't know if its due to my natural hair or the "I don't do Stupid" that I have stamped across my forehead.

Unfortunately men feel as if they can tell me my loves and hates in life by my hair. For example, "Hello my beautiful Nubian Queen, I just want to say you are a beautiful woman you must be a vegeterian, neo soul, poetry, a pet lover, nature..." This is one issue that is irritating- yes I enjoy hip hop but I am real quick to pop in some Rilo Kiley. No I'm not a pet lover. Yes, I love poetry but I enjoy a range of novels. Yes i love nature but I love the intense world of city life. And yes I attempted to be a vegeterian but right now in my life I enjoy meats!

Since my major is Fashion Marketing, I do feel as if my field is more open. Attending a school focus on the arts and Fashion you are bombarded with bold looks from all cultures so being natural is not out of the norm.

I am ultimately attracted to any male who is artistic- painter, poet, musician,etc.. Its easier for me to find another creative soul with my natural hair. As for young women who are breaking into corporate America and want to attract a corporate male may have much more difficult time to find an open minded brotha'.

Yes, media plays a vital role in dictating what type of women males are attracted to. I guarantee if Rihanna went natural it wuld be the next big trend (which is ridiculous that people take anything that's thrown in their face). Yes we know lightskin long hair is seen as beautiful..but do people know why?! Its pure self hatred that causes us to conform of what is seen as European beauty. I can talk about that for hours...If you haven't Please Read the Willie Lynch Letter for the complete breakdown.

Natural hair is beautiful.Point.Blank. Period. To all the women struggling because they are not receiving attention from males as they would like to ...PLEASE DON'T WORRY. Why would you want to attract a male who is not worth your time and is not even close to your level. Please continue to keep your head up and know the reason why they won't approach you because they know they can't handle a secure woman. That's all. It helps you save your precious time from investing your emotions into someone who is close minded and ignorant.

"Proposal, Fax,Registration, Internship, Security Deposit, Rent, Apartment, Classes, Loans...." The list can go on. This is what I have been dealing with this past week. Lord knows I had a slight breakdown when I found out all these problems in less than an hour on a drab Monday.

Thankfully everything has pretty much pulled together on this chilly Friday.

Even though I feel as if my life is falling apart every other week, I can't complain. I always know that everything will fall in place eventually.

In the midst of the drama it seems as if and hour equal a day. A minute equals an hour, A second equals a minute. The problem seems drawn out for no reason until you look back and realize your breakdown was less than a week. The feeling I feel e when I look back is triumph! I know the more trials I go through the stronger individual I will become.

Complications just makes you that much more untouchable. It puts everything in perspective. Little situations that were "important" before soon become irrelevant and no longer a priority.

Now that I've weed out irrelevant issues in life, now comes the hard part. What do you do when every priority is a level 3 priority and higher?? Two words that were sent by my best Allison, ......."Grind Harder!" That's it. When you turn around and see that you cannot afford to slack in any area, you just have to exert more energy and faith to keep everything a float.

You feel on the top of the world when you climb the mountain that seemed humongous. Its funny because when you look back it was just a mere hill.

Prayer & Faith ......build upon it each day and you will begin to see the difference of how you respond to life surprises!

I gave myself y one day, yesterday to feel sorry for myself and now I;m back in the game.

But anyways I meant to post my Beauty loves now....

These are th three nail colors I have been wearing in rotation. I know that it's spring and my colors should be brighter but it's not looking too good. I always tend to go for darker more rich colors with anything I wear, even in nail polish.

My next two products are dedicated to hair moisture Lord knows that being natural moisture is one of the hardest task. I use the Sulfur 8 almost daily. After I either two strand twist my hair or bantu knots before I got to bed I use it on my scalp. It loosens up my hair and makes it much more manageable.

My second product that I've been using on a regular basis is coconut oil. I've been using coconut oil by African Angel. It smells remarkable! It does a pretty good job on the scalp. All you need is a little palm ful and it will do the job. My biggest mistake was I used a tadbit too much:0

Last two products I have been without are health related! Craisins have been my best friend for the past couple of weeks. I often go through the day with only one main meal and awhole bunch of snacks ( I know I'm working on it). My snacks usually consist of chips, Candy bars and anything grossly unhealthy but tasty! But I found a new love, craisin! No only are they conveniently packaged but are both healthy and sweet.

Last product is just good ol' H2O. I have to admit I rarely drink water with my meals. I always carry a bottle of water just when I get thirsty throughout the day. A water filter has allowed me to save so much money other than buying bottled water! Water flushes out germs from our diet and helps clear brain activity soo drink away!

It's All In the Name

Greetings! As I am cooking my dinner (a frozen pizza in the oven) I was thinking of an old conversation I had with some of my homegirls. It was a pretty random and laid back debate but still interesting nonetheless.

As a single strong minded (maybe stubborn) female, I'm known as the harsh one when it comes to my friends. I cannot even tell you how many interventions I had in the past two months to cut males some slack. Hmm I think not. I have the right to have standards and if you cannot meet them you will be dismissed,....no hard feelings:0

But anyways me and my roommate were talking about names a male calls you when he is attracted to you. Sweetie, Babes, Boo, Sugar, Lovie, Honeydip, Chocolate kisses...whatever you catch my drift. I asked her how she felt about these little pet names that people give to each other when they are together. Her response was that she thinks its a sweet gesture when a guy gives her a name. She apparently loves being called "Babe" and loves to use "Boo" for whoever male she is with at the time.

My Turn. She asked me how I felt about the sweet little nicknames. I had to ponder on it for a moment.Hmmmm let me see my favorite name for a male to call me is ................................................my own! After an eye roll and a chuckle from my roommate I realized that I even call males by their real names. I was never a fan of calling a male my boo, my love, my sweeite- all negative!

In all honesty my favorite name a male can call me is my own. I feel as if these little pet names are not only kind of lame but slightly generic. I'm sure every female that the guy ever talked to he has used that same nickname for all his girls. It's so much in a name. I can honestly say that I Love to hear a male just to call me Ellisa . I don't think it's cold or rude. I feel as if its more personable than all these other pet names.

My friends insisted that I'm heartless and that I am "guy" when it comes to showing affection.

I have to admit I have been going in and out of being fully motivated when it comes to fighting for my dreams. I was to a point where I was becoming slightly content with my situation. When I first made this move in life to live my dreams, I was so hungry. When I moved to Chicago and told my loved ones my future plans I had complete tunnel vision. I knew that there was nothing stopping me from pursuing my goals. Life's distractions tries to come to you in every situation: Doubters, Unmotivated people, Life's trials, and just plain negativity.

It hit me after I returned from Sunday Service this past Sunday, which was amazing, that Never put God in a box! Never limit what He can do in your life. It made me sit back to go back to my huge dreams when I had when I first made this move. I flipped through all my journals that had all my goals and it started to sink in. When I first was here I had an agenda to get me to the next level. I did everything in my power to reach all these goals. I stay in people's face and made it impossible to forget me wand what I wanted.

Just because you reached your first set of goals, the next thing to do is.....Set BIGGER & BETTER Goals!! Go back to what made you sacrifice everything in life.

Don't ever stay comfortable! If you're at a point where you are completely comfortable in life that just means you need to set new goals. Growth is a part of life!

You have to have an UNBREAKABLE Mentality. Its' not that I have full confidence in myself but I have FULL confidence in GOD . All I'm doing is staying focus on Him and where He wants Me to be !

Say your dreams EVERYDAY!! WORDS ARE POWERFUL! Say It!!! No matter how ridiculous it might sound!

And for my ladies, we have to grind it out twice as hard! That should motivate you even more to put everything you have in your dreams. Men are not the only ones that are able to become CEOs & Moguls. We all know that women are smarter than men(Lol) So we should be making major moves!!

Remember if you start to feel that itch in life that's just a warning sign that God is about to take you to a new level in life!

"On The Ocean"

"Out here on the ocean, I know my ship has come in ....." Okay so maybe not an ocean ...more so Lake Michigan. Since this weekend was unnaturally beautiful in Chicago I had to take advantage of this weather. After work me and my gal pals, made a pit stop at Buffalo Wild Wings, ordered the food to go and headed to the beach that evening.

There is honestly nothing better in life than the comfort of a summer night. It puts you at instant peace. It doesn't matter if your world is crumbling around you, summer nights allow you to sneak moments of bliss. Being able to look out at waves splashing is both relaxing and magical. I'ts somewhat undescribable of how your thoughts begin to loosen up when you look at one of God's Creations that is so much bigger than you are.

I have reach a point in my life where life is not as clear and cookie cut as I pictured it. I realized that you sometime have no control of how certain situations play out in life. All you have the power to do is react in the best way. I realized its really okay. It is okay not to be able to have control over what happens in your life. Embrace it. Trials are just God's way of nudging saying I'm still thinking of you and He wants you to grow. Think about it, If you're not growing, what are you doing?

And most importanat .....Laugh;) Laughter is the best medicine in any situation. I find myself getting so stressed out when something doesn't fall in place exactly how I pictured it. It gets to a point where you literally just have to laugh out loud. Goodmorning all! I am recently recovering from my long day but thrilling day yesterday! After class I wen to a Meet & Greet with Washington's D.C.'s hip hop artist Wale (pronounced Wah-lay)!! As everyone know I am an intense hip hop lover and thats what Wale represents. His music is inspired by the go-go sound of D.C. and by the way he's Nigerian! Represent! His best known song and video is porbably the single W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.. He is also put out a song and video with Chrissette Michele and The Roots called Rising Ups. He has been in press from XXL magazine to The New York Times..I have to say my fav mixtape from him is " A Mixtape About Nothing." Oh and he's currently signed with Rocafella....but moving on ...

Wale was super genuine an quite funny! Both me and my roommate told him we appreciate that he's putting Nigeria on the map! But was teasing him because he half way knew Yoruba. When he signed my autograph he asked my name....I began to say Ellisa..he shook his head and said nooo whats your name?? I laughed and repeated Oluwafemi! he smirked......and made a couple of jokes..about it and signed.

Good evening , Its was a rainy, and pretty chilly today. I worked all day and came home and finished typing paper that I just finished:) It's interesting the paper deals with alot of personal growth and soul searching. ...while were on the topic...

As I was cleaning out my USB drive I ran across this poem I wrote about a year ago. When I read it, I pretty much cringed. The reason being because I don't even converse with this person anymore. But as I continued to read I realized it had nothing to do with the other person but was a reflection to myself. When you express yourself I realized its not about the other person and how they respond to you but how you see your true self. It shows emotions that have been laying dormant...and now you have to face them...well here it goes....

Goodmorning to all! Today is a dreary, gray morning.....I overslept this morning, but I still made it to class on time! The World - 0, Ellisa-2!

But anyways

When I was growing up I Polly was one of my FAVORITE movies ever!
Polly is a touching family movie that starred Phylicia Rashad and Keisha Knight Pulliam which took place in the 1950's. Polly (Keisha Knight Pulliam) goes to visit her wealthy Aunt Polly (Phylicia Rashad) for the summer. While there, Polly's happy and joyful spirit spreads to the entire community.

When I was a young girl I was ALWAYS amazed on how the women looked so entirely put together. It was so much pride in how they presented themselves. I love the silohuette of the dresses, pinned hair , dainty gloves and oh so fierce hats.

I remember my grandmother gave me a deep purple, full A-line dress with ruffles for days. I would spin in circle until I feel like I was going to pass out! I miss it....SOOooo why not re-invent the style in more mature way. This spring/Summer I'm Channeling the 1950's- full dresses and skirts

Greetings ..today was a pretty chill day. Even though it was a beautiful day I decided to have a lock in. I needed to organize my life in a nut shell and do some work.

But I had a thought provoking day though! As I was putting clothes in my giveaway pile....It HIT me - April 18, 2009 - it hit me... that I'm actually headed to New York in 3 months to intern for Seventeen!!!!!

CrAzY!! I know! With that in mind I realized I needed to revamp my closet:) Yes Im officially in "Project Internship Wardrobe"! and me studying NY maps like crazy but hey, hopefully if I'm lost I can still look fly!!!

Today in one of my classes I was told that one of my school's alumni is a contestant of the new show on Bravo The Fashion Show. The new show is hosted by Isaac Mizrahi, Kelly Rowland andFern Mallis. Fifteen professional designers will compete in this fashion creative competition series for a chance to have their designs sold in the retail market and win a $125,000 prize.

Kristen graduated from The Illinois Institute of Art- Chicago 3 years ago. I viewed her collection, Organik Revolution at Chicago's Fashion Focus and was one of my favorite collections. All of her clothes are eco-friendly. I love her color tones, What can I say I'm a sucker for earthtones:0 Here are a couple pictures of her collection that I snapped at the Fashion Show. . . . .

Heads Up

Goodmorning! I was going to post something completely different this morning that has been rattling through my mind. Life happens, so I decided to change it up.

Yesterday was my official start of my quarter (im officially a senior in college, Praise God). I went to my full load of classes, ran errands, and ended up dozing off after an amusing episode of Harlem Heights.

I woke back up around 1 a.m. I don't have any classes today so I decided that I could do some late night organizing. Re-evaluating old papers, trying to make sense of what i call my closet and stacking all my mags and books in order time slipped passed.

I realized I didn't sneak back into bed until around 4 or 5 a.m. As I was getting prepared to lay down when I began to say a prayer. As I asked the Lord to protect my family a sharp pain struck my left side. I shook it off and repeated the prayer of protection over my family. The pain struck again.

This time I began to become alert because God sends signs all the time in the most peculiar way.

I finished up my prayer and snuck off to sleep with late night commercials bombarding the TV.

This morning I received a phone call an hour after I dozed off. I glanced at the number but I didn't recognize it so I ignored it.

Two minutes later I received a text from my older sister that she was in the emergency room because she had been in an car accident on her way to work.

I immediate jumped out of bed as she called to give me the details of how she was trapped in the car while smoke was taking a ride through her lungs.

Thank God that she is just fine but sore.

Just want to share the importance of prayer.

But I had to post my new fav item of the moment...I'm sure it will change in a couple days:0 Yesterday I bought these black Harem Pants from my job. I love these suckers. All you need is a killer heel, a fitted cami and a vintage clutch and bam! Chic, simple and comfy! I'm glad its finally hitting the states. Europeans have been holding these pants down for a quite a while. Since I'm not a denim lover at heart, I get excited about other options. People either love them or hate them....hand up for LOVE!

What Up? Fly People Im just posting a couple of new addition to my health collections.

Okay so I'm currently in love with Traders Joe's I went about 2 weeks ago with my fab friend David. I needed a new conditioner and heard both Whole Foods and Trader Joe's had a good collection of natural hair and body products. Since Trader Joes was closer and it felt like -5 degrees ..Trader Joe's won! I picked up Avalon Organic Botanical Nourishing Conditioner. It is enriched with Beta Glucan, Babassu Oil, Vitamin E, Panthenol and Arginine. It sound and smelled good so it was a winner. When I used this product it was worked amzingly wonderful (if that made sense). My hair was sooo soft and moisturized..love it. Haha but the best part it was like 5 or 6 bucks compared to 12- 15 I usually purchase. Winner!

Okay my next health pick was introduced by my homegirl Shani. She is honestly the most health conscious person I know. You would think she's a 65 year old woman..eats 3 meals a day takes vitamins at each one, no snacking and if she does its grapes and carrots. I love It! Well she has been really pushing Flax Seed Oils for healthy hair and nail growth. She takes them with each meal and these suckers are huge! I read more into it and saw how beneficial they were.
- Reduces the risk of cancer

- Helps lower cholesterol

- Helps lower blood pressure

- Protects against heart disease

- Aids the growth of healthy hair and nails

- Promotes healthy skin

and many more wonderful things! So I've added them. They were only about 4 bucks. We'll see if i start to see a difference in my health especially in the hair department.

Goodmorning Beautiful People, I hope all is well. I had an interesting conversation last week and it has stuck with me. Must need to share it........

Last week was pretty hectic because I had midterms and was working more hours. My mind was racing on 15 different tasks I needed to complete. So after I left one of my classes that didn't end until 9pm, I headed to the library. My hood was up and headphone in my ears. I was not in the mood to talk to anyone. I tend to block out the world when I'm trying to get things accomplished. Well, while I was making copies, my Charles Hamilton song was interrupted. I looked up to see a young male asking about a printer that they moved to the front of the library. I informed him of the location and quickly went back to what I was doing previously. In the next 20 seconds I looked up again and saw him still standing there.

I promptly paused my ipod and asked him if it was anything else I could help him with.

He just shook his head and asked, "Why do you always have your ipod in you ears? It seems like you always try to block out the world and you don't want to be bother by anyone all the time."

I simply cracked a half smile and responded " You're right, I don't like being bother by people and yes I tend to block out people and drama around me. I'm just simply focus, that's all."

He was pretty shocked at my reply. You can tell he's been curious about my behavior for awhile.

He asked, "Why is that?"

My response, " If I was a male you wouldn't have thought twice about my actions. If I was a male who kept on my headphones on and you saw me doing my work each day it would be totally different. You would just have given kudos on that young male staying on his grind and trying to make moves."

He did a sly smile and responded,"I can't even argue that point. You're right.You just don't see many females with your mindset. Most females number one priority is there relationship and boyfriend, So do you even have a boyfriend?"

My response got a tadbit loud and had to remind myself I was still in the library, " No sir, I do not have boyfriend. This is the farthest issue from my mind right now in life. I'm just focused! Why is this so hard for you to understand??"

He was starteld but clearly still curious,"Oh don't take this the wrong way but are you one of those bitter women who think all males are dogs?"

By this time I had went back to copying because i didn't have time for this mess.

I paused again and looked at him and stated "I don't understand why this concept is so hard for you to grasp but I'm focused. That's all! Why does every female mentality have to be wrapped around a male?? It's funny because a female very rarely takes away a male focus in life but a male easily will distract a female from her goals and dreams. No, I'm not bitter. Yes their are good males somewhere in this world but I'm definitely not going to wait and wrap my life around one. AND even if I did have a boyfriend I would be acting the same way. My boyfriend would be focused and we would still be making moves on our own. Did I answer all of your questions???"

His apologetic reply, "Yeah you did, I would just hate to see someone like you to ever become bitter towards love. It was nice to meet you still."

My tired reply, "Thank you for your concern. I will be fine.Nice to meet you also"

Womp Womp Womp.. Any thoughts. I don't know its interesting because after that conversation i noticed that other females I would talk to had to have some sort of male in their life. If not boyfriend to boyfriend, it was a friend with benefits just so they don't feel lonely. I'm knocking anyone in a relationship but in this age range I can tell that if is a difficult task to balance both.

Guess what?? I have a small secret??here it goes.........

Live, Laugh, Love, Pick up new hobbies, dance around learn how to cook:)(by the way my boneless chicken breast were pretty good if I say so myself) live in a dream, live health conscious, most important develop your Spiritual Relationship..the list can go on but this shows how much you can do in life....without losing yourself in someone else.

Oh, Here We Go!

SO one of my resolutions for 2009 was to take care of myself and stop being so lazy with my natural hair. Its pretty healthy I just never have time to try new ideas.So when ever I have down time I am looking at natural hair blogs for new products or ideas. I came across these videos on NappyHeadz.blogspot.com and was pretty speechless.

The first video seriously hurt my heart. I was watching it around 11p.m. last night. I was so irate I woke up my roommate to make her watch this foolishness! We ended up staying up for a good 2hours discussing how society tries to put black women in a certain beauty mold.. ....Check it out

Im glad the did a part two to get the Natural women opinions. ...Watch...

It still hurt my heart when they said they could not find any male to interview who apppreciated natural hair.

Well I LOVE my NATURAL HAIR and if it doesn't attract lil Tyrone from around the block, I could careless:)

Hey, Numerous times I receive the question "Who is your style inspiration?' And I never have a response. I would have to say its a mix of my personality, whats flattering to my shape and how I wan to be represented as a person. Style is your personal Billboard. I have to say I cannot stand when you look at a person and see their style star inspiration..the two who I see on a daily are mini Kanye's and Rihanna"s running around the place. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong on giving props to certain people with their own style but just remember to do you in your style at all times. SO I'll be posting people who truly have personal style and to prove to people their are other females in the spotlight other than Beyonce and Rihanna to be inspired by.

I chose Zoe Kravitz as a dope chick because she has raw style. It's not tailored and clean around the edges it's just pure style.
